How to change the fuel injectors

There was a day when finding cheap aftermarket support 500-600rwhp injectors were tough. There were few options for high impedance injectors style, with the exception of Ford Motorsport 42lbs or MSD £ 50 units. The aftermarket fuel injection industry has developed rapidly over the past few years, and as a result many brands and sizes in most performance enthusiasts. Larger injectors needed to support higher performance levels for modified cars. As a rule of thumb, the following equations are useful when selecting the correct size injectors to support the required power level.

to calculate the size of a particular application

– Injector Flow Rate (lb / hr) = Motor HP (1) x BSFC (2) – the number of injectors x injector duty cycle (3)

and

– injector Flow Rate (cc / min) = Motor HP (1) x BSFC (2) x 5.10 – number of injectors x injector duty cycle (3)

is an old trick that some of the "Tuner" was not used to change the 30lb / 36lb Ford Motorsport units to increase the flow rate. There are also street / strip racers using these modified injectors today great results for a particular purpose. In general, 30lb injectors becom injectors 47lb 36lb and 66lb injectors may / 72lb / 77lb injectors.

Further, some original manufacturer Ford used by Bosch-like entities that can be modified to flow 47lbs. This method of amending certain Ford / Bosch injectors style drastically increase without significantly affecting the fuel delivery injector spray pattern or the vehicle emissions. A very high level, here are the steps to modify fuel injectors;

  1. Remove the valve cap, o-rings and insulation.
  2. Remove the disc difusser filing of the seam around.
  3. Install new valve caps, o-rings and insulation.
  4. There theunits flow tested and ultrasonically cleaned with a professional service.

The problem is that the actual process is not known and it is very easy to destroy a fuel injection if properly done. Care must be taken when removing the difusser plate and the injectors must be flow tested and ultrasonically cleaned (good practices used injectors) to check the flow rate. After the injector size is known in the computer / MAF can be calibrated to meet the new flow rate to ensure proper air-fuel ratio (that is what must be done, regardless of what remanufactured fuel injectors are used).

If proper performance of the procedure, they modified fuel injectors works very well and is easy to support street / strip cars can easily generate 400-600 horsepower. Many still use today. This is still economical way to acquire larger units for car owners on a limited budget.
